The Wave on the Trail
Hikers have an old habit. When you pass someone on the trail, you nod, wave, or say good morning. It doesn't matter if they're old or young, fast or slow, wearing fancy gear or old sneakers. On the trail, everyone is a fellow traveler. One small hello says, "I see you, and you belong out here too."
A Scout is Friendly. That means treating everyone like a fellow traveler, not just the people who look like us or like the same things we do. Friendliness is a choice we make with every person we meet, and it costs nothing at all.
This week, greet someone you usually walk right past. It could be a custodian at school, a neighbor, or a kid in another grade. Look them in the eye, smile, and say hello. Treat the hallway like a trail.
