Salt of the Earth
Who can tell me what salt of the earth means? That's right. It means a person of fine character who is good to be around. The saying probably comes from the way a little salt makes a lot of food taste better.
You will find salt in most of the recipes you cook on campouts, from scrambled eggs to stew. Just as salt improves the flavor of food, a person who is the salt of the earth improves the lives of everyone around them. They live by the Scout Oath and Law every day, whether or not anyone is watching. They do a Good Turn daily, and they deal fairly with everyone they meet. They are not loud about it. Like salt, you might not notice them right away, but you would notice if they were gone. You can be the salt of the earth too.
This week, do one quiet Good Turn each day that nobody asked for. Let's remind ourselves what it takes by saying the Scout Law now.
