Without Being Asked

At the end of a troop meeting, most people head straight for the door. One week, a leader stayed behind to stack chairs and noticed a Scout doing the same thing. The next week, two Scouts stayed. By the end of the month, the whole patrol was stacking chairs, sweeping the floor, and putting the flags away. Nobody ever made it a rule.

The Scout slogan is Do a Good Turn Daily. A good turn is help that you choose to give, not help you are told to give. When one person starts, others follow. That is how being Helpful turns into leadership.

This week, find one job at home, at school, or here at the meeting that usually gets left for someone else. Do it without being asked. Then do it again next time. See who joins you.
