What the Label Promises

Picture a canvas bag with TWELVE TENT STAKES written on it. At a gear check, a leader opens it and counts nine. It would be easy to pull the cord shut. Instead, the leader changes the label and tells the next camper what is missing.

The Scout Law point Trustworthy asks us to make our words match what is really there. A neat label cannot hold down a tent. Neither can a promise we quietly abandon. People depend on the truth inside our words, especially when plans change. Being trustworthy does not mean everything always goes right. It means others do not have to guess whether we have told them the whole story.

This week, choose one promise someone is counting on. Check what it will take, then follow through. If you discover a problem, tell them early and offer a clear plan to make it right.
