The Sunrise Watch

On a mountaintop campout, the Scoutmaster woke everyone at five in the morning. There was grumbling, and lots of it. Then they reached the ridge just as the sun came up over the valley. The sky went from purple to orange to gold. Nobody spoke. Even the loudest Scout in the troop just stood there, quiet, watching.

A Scout is Reverent. Reverence is that feeling of awe when we see something bigger than ourselves. Whatever our faith, we can all feel it in nature, and we can respect the beliefs of others who feel it too. Reverence keeps us humble and grateful.

This week, find a quiet moment outside. Watch a sunrise, a sunset, or the stars. Put your phone away and just notice. Then think about what you are grateful for, and give thanks in your own way.
