The Pencil on the Calendar

Imagine two neighbors planning a free bike repair day. One reaches for a pencil and taps a date on the calendar. The other explains that the date is a holy day in her faith. The pencil stops. They look for another date. No argument. No eye roll.

The Scout Law point Reverent asks us to honor God and respect the beliefs of others. That respect becomes real in small choices, like checking a calendar before making a plan. You do not have to share someone's faith to take it seriously. And making room for another person's practice does not mean giving up your own. It means treating sacred things with care.

This week, ask someone you make plans with whether a religious observance affects their schedule. Listen without debating. Then make one adjustment that respects their practice, while also setting aside time to honor God in your own faith.
