The Path We Climb

Tonight I want to talk about rank advancement, but not about the badges themselves. I want to talk about what they really stand for. Every requirement is a step on a trail, and the trail is changing you as you climb.

When you learn first aid, you become someone others can count on. When you plan a service project, you learn to see needs and act. I have watched Scouts rush through requirements, focused only on the next badge, and I have watched others take time to master each skill. Guess which ones become the leaders others turn to? Your rank is not something you get. It is something you become. Do not measure yourself against other Scouts. Your journey is your own. The badges on your uniform are reminders of your skills, your character, and your Scout Oath to use both in service to others.

This week, go back to one skill you already signed off and practice it until you could teach it. Keep climbing, Scouts.
