The Part in the Bag
Picture a customer at a bike shop, holding a greasy part in a sandwich bag. He cannot remember its name. The mechanic could show off or make a joke. Instead, she clears a spot on the counter, listens, and explains the repair in plain words. His shoulders relax.
The Scout Law calls us to be Courteous. That means being polite to everyone, including someone who does not know what we know. Good manners are more than the right words. They help people feel safe asking questions. On a campout, a new skill can be confusing enough without a sigh or an eye roll from the person explaining it.
This week, look for one chance to explain something without making the other person feel small. Let them finish their question. Use plain words. If they need you to repeat it, do it kindly. Make learning easier, not asking harder.
