The Flat Tire

A troop was driving home from a campout when they passed a car on the shoulder with a flat tire. An older couple stood beside it, staring at the jack like it was a puzzle. The Scoutmaster pulled over. In twenty minutes, four Scouts who had practiced changing a tire at a meeting had the spare on and the flat in the trunk.

A Scout is Helpful. But being helpful takes two things: a willing heart and some skill. That's why we learn first aid, knots, and how to change a tire. The motto Be Prepared means we get ready now so we can help later, when it counts.

This week, learn one practical skill you could use to help someone. Ask a parent to show you how to check tire pressure, jump a car, or treat a burn. Then you'll be ready when the moment comes.
