The Borrowed Flashlight
On a winter campout, one Scout borrowed a flashlight from the patrol box. Somewhere on the night hike, the lens cracked. Nobody saw it happen. The next morning, the easy thing would have been to slide it back into the box and say nothing. Instead, that Scout walked over to the Quartermaster, held it out, and said, "I broke this. I'll replace it."
That took about ten seconds, but it said everything. The Scout Law starts with Trustworthy for a reason. People can only count on you if you tell the truth, especially when the truth costs you something. Trust is built in small moments like that one, and it is lost in small moments too.
This week, look for one moment where you could stay quiet about a mistake. Speak up instead. Own it, fix it, and move on. You will be surprised how much lighter it feels.
