Our Role as Citizens
Scouts, with elections happening, it is a great time to think about our role as citizens. Elections are about people using their voices to shape their communities, their states, and their country. Even if you are too young to vote, you are already part of it.
The Scout Law gives us a guide for civic life. Being trustworthy means seeking the truth and trying to understand views that are different from yours. Being loyal and helpful means working to make your community better for everyone, even people you disagree with. Being courteous means you can argue about ideas without attacking people. You can make a difference right now by learning how things work, listening carefully, and serving others. Someday you will vote, serve on a jury, or maybe run for office. The habits you build now will make you the kind of citizen your community needs.
This week, ask an adult in your family how they decide who to vote for, and listen to the whole answer without arguing.
