More Than Cloth

Scouts, when you look at our flag, you are not just seeing cloth and thread. You are seeing what it stands for: freedom, courage, and the sacrifices of the many people who came before us and served so we could live the way we do.

Just like the flag is a symbol, so are you when you wear your Scout uniform. People see that uniform and think about what Scouting stands for. They expect someone trustworthy, helpful, and courteous. When you hold a door, help a neighbor, or stay calm when things go wrong, you show people what the uniform means. When you act carelessly, people notice that too. A Scout is loyal, to their country, their troop, and their own word. You represent something bigger than yourself, whether you are in uniform or not. That is a responsibility, and it is also an honor.

This week, whenever you see a flag, ask yourself: am I living up to what it represents, and am I honoring the Scout Oath and Law? Make it count!
