Looking Back, Moving Forward

Scouts, as we close out the year, think about how far you have come. You have learned skills most people never will. You have tied knots, built fires, navigated trails, and served your community. You have learned to lead and to keep going when things got hard.

Here is what I have noticed. The Scouts who stick with it, who show up when it is not convenient, who push to the next rank, who come back year after year, are the ones who surprise themselves with what they become. Scouting is not only about badges or campouts. It is about becoming someone others can count on, and that takes time. The trail ahead has more challenges and more chances to grow, but you have to stay on it to see where it leads. A Scout is loyal, and that includes loyalty to the journey you started.

This week, write down one goal for next year in Scouting, and tell one adult or patrol member so they can help you keep it.
