Leaving Without Letting Go

Imagine a kayak club's adult trip planner moving away. At the last gathering, the planner spreads a chart across a picnic table. Instead of choosing another route, the planner helps the next volunteer plan one. Leaving town is unavoidable. Leaving everyone guessing is not. The farewell becomes a handoff.

The Scout Law point Loyal means being true to people, even when your own life changes. Older teens face plenty of transitions: new schools, jobs, crews, and responsibilities. Loyalty does not require staying in the same role forever. It asks you to remember who is counting on you. You can welcome a new opportunity while helping your family, friends, or Scout leaders manage what you leave behind. Growing forward need not mean dropping people.

This week, choose one responsibility you will soon leave or share. Tell the person affected, explain what needs doing, and help them try it. Leave them ready, not stranded.
