Different Prayers, One Table
At a big jamboree, a dining tent filled with Scouts from all over the country. Before one meal, a leader asked if anyone would like to share a grace. One Scout offered a prayer from their tradition. Another shared a different one. A third simply asked for a moment of silence. Everyone bowed their heads for all three.
A Scout is Reverent. That means being faithful in our own duty to God, as we understand it, and respecting the beliefs of others. Reverence is not about everyone believing the same thing. It is about honoring what is sacred to the people around us.
This week, ask a friend or neighbor about a tradition that is important to them. Listen with respect and curiosity. Then share one of yours. Understanding grows when we listen.
