Cheerful Service

Service is part of Scouting. Every Scout takes part in service projects to advance in rank. You have picked up litter, helped at food drives, and worked on Eagle projects. But service goes far beyond what the requirements ask of you.

Service is part of growing up. As you move from childhood toward adulthood, you change from working only for what you want to working for what is good for everyone around you. That is what your Scout Oath means when you promise to help other people at all times. And the Scout Law adds something important: a Scout is cheerful. Anyone can do a job while grumbling. A Scout who serves with a smile makes the work lighter for everyone, and people remember that attitude long after the job is done. Cheerful service turns a chore into a gift.

This week, do one job at home without being asked, and do it cheerfully from start to finish. Notice how people react.
