A Leader Leads

A general was in trouble. He faced an enemy army that was bigger and better equipped. His soldiers needed food, equipment, and supplies, and he had no money to buy them. It was winter, and the river between him and the enemy was choked with ice.

Everyone said that river could not be crossed. The general did not listen. He put his men in small boats, crossed the icy river at night, and surprised the enemy, capturing about a thousand soldiers. The general was George Washington, on Christmas night in 1776. A Scout is brave, and bravery is not waiting until things are easy. Many people wait until the ice is out of the river, until conditions improve, until someone else goes first. Leaders do not wait for perfect conditions. They cross the river.

This week, find one thing you have been putting off because it feels hard, and take the first step before our next meeting. Good night, Scouts.
