A Different Way to Play
Imagine two adults setting out dominoes at a neighborhood picnic. A new neighbor watches, then explains that she grew up playing a different version. Instead of correcting her, they slide the pieces back into a pile. For the next round, she teaches. Soon, all three are laughing.
The Scout Law says a Scout is Friendly. That means being a friend to all, including people who are different from us. It is easy to welcome someone when they already know our games and share our interests. The bigger opportunity comes when they do not. We can get curious instead of making judgments. Friendship does not require matching backgrounds, abilities, or opinions. It starts with treating someone as worth knowing, without asking them to become a copy of us.
This week, talk with someone whose interests differ from yours. Ask what they enjoy about one hobby. Listen, then invite them to show you something about it.
