The Shelf by the Window
Picture a painter getting a room ready for a fresh coat. Drop cloths cover the floor. Near the window sits a small shelf with a prayer book and a candle. Instead of sweeping everything into a box, the painter asks the owner how those things should be handled.
The Scout Law point Reverent asks us to bring that kind of care to faith. Being reverent toward God means giving our beliefs more than a spot on a shelf. It means letting them shape our choices. Respecting someone else's beliefs starts with remembering that we may not know what matters to them, or why. We can ask without arguing. We can listen without agreeing. Respect does not require pretending our differences are small.
This week, ask someone you trust about a religious practice that matters to them. Listen to understand, then choose one way to honor God through your own actions.
