The Quiet Wisdom of Fish
Scouts, think about the humble fish. Fish adapt constantly to their surroundings, from cold mountain streams to warm lakes. Most fish can only swim forward. They can't back up, so they keep their eyes on what is ahead of them, not behind.
Fish have more to teach us. When they swim together in schools, they create a powerful defense against predators, just as we become stronger as a patrol and a troop. Alone, a small fish is an easy target. Together, they look like one big creature that predators leave alone. Fish also keep going against strong currents and around rocks, never giving up easily. Those are Scout qualities. A Scout is friendly and helpful to the team, brave enough to face hard currents, and cheerful enough to keep moving forward instead of dwelling on yesterday's mistakes. Adaptability, teamwork, and perseverance will carry you a long way.
This week, when something goes wrong, do what a fish does: don't dwell on it, adapt, and keep swimming forward with your team.
